Basic Ten Frame Set


  • Print them LARGE on card stock, and put them into page protectors.
  • Start by exploring the first ten frame- the empty one. Count the frames with your students every way you can- vertically, horizontally, upside down. Prove that there are ten spaces any way you look at it.
  • With the filled ten frames, the students may start with counting.
  • The next step is to explore how you might know the number shown WITHOUT COUNTING. And really explore. Take time for this. Lots of “What do you see? What else do you see? What else?”
  • *We are moving towards subitizing- but nobody needs to know that yet!
